Randhir Kapoor Reveals RK Studios Had To Be Sold As “No Actor Shoots There, Anymore”
Randhir Kapoor talks about the “emotional loss” as the Kapoors decide to sell off the famous RK Studios, situated in Chembur. Speaking to an online portal, the veteran actor reveals that keeping the studio, is not a viable proposition anymore
With a heavy heart, the Kapoors have decided to sell off
the iconic RK Studios situated in Chembur, Mumbai. In a conversation with The
Quint, Randhir Kapoor revealed, “With the state of the roads and traffic today,
no actor comes to Chembur to shoot in this studio. They would rather go to Film
City. So, with a very heavy heart, we have decided to let it go. My whole
family is very sad, but there’s no other way.”
“It’s even more an emotional loss than monetary loss. We
have lost the entire memorabilia of Raj Kapoor. Whatever Raj Kapoor had built
has been burnt down,” added Randhir Kapoor.

With the studio going up for sale, it’s pretty much the
end of an era in Bollywood. The illustrious RK Studios was set up by and named
after Raj Kapoor. It was founded in 1948, a year after India gained
independence. The first movie produced by the banner was Aag (1948) and it
did not perform well at the box-office.
Kareena Kapoor was also asked about the sale of the
iconic studios, a few days back, as she walked the ramp at the Lakme
Fashion Week Grand Finale.
“I don't know how far what is actually happening. In
fact, I have been quite under the weather and I haven't even met my father in
the last four or five days. But of course, we have all grown up walking around
in those corridors. I think it's probably something that the family has
decided, so it's upto my father, his brothers and up to them. If that's what
they have decided, so be it,” said Kareena.
